Artist Statement

Over the last six years I have been exploring and developing three main areas of interest. I have a particular love for the still life art genre. One of my passions is to explore the use of colour and pattern in works where busy backgrounds counter-balance the subject in a fight for attention. My second area of interest is an exploration of the plant world. Here, the emphasis has been to develop some level of abstraction while at the same time capturing the hues and forms of flowers or fruits that are special to me, with honesty and respect. Finally, I have explored landscape. In these pieces I've tried to capture places that are familiar to me, emphasising the features that have drawn me to these areas in the first place. I have been working on developing a degree of abstraction in order to make a fresh statement from a more personal perspective.
